Week 3 Family Support Services

Q Initial Response Due Thursday by 11:59 pm Optional Response to Classmates Due Sunday by 11:59 pm One of the most important parts of working with families is providing access to support services. For this activity, choose one of the families below and find at least 3 low-cost or free community services that could support them. In your post, include why you selected the resource, what services they offer and how it will support the family you have chosen. There is a list of resources at the bottom of this page, and you can also research online to find more. It's a good idea to find resources in your area where you live or work. For this discussion, you are not required to respond to peers unless you want to. We are using this discussion format so everyone in the class can have access to the many resources available! 1) Jeanette, a single mom, and full-time LASC student needs low-cost childcare for her 6-month-old son, Jaiden. Jeanette is a member of the LASC Black Collegians Club. 2) David and Theo, gay parents who recently adopted a child from China and are concerned that their child may have autism. Theo is Chinese-American and has been trying to speak to their child in his native language. David is concerned this might be confusing the child and preventing her from learning English. 3) Sharon and Jonathan, grandparents who gained custody of their twin grandsons after their daughter entered treatment for alcoholism, are looking for counseling to help the children adjust. Sharon, a member of the Chumash Native American Nation, is concerned that her grandsons haven't learned their family traditions. Some resources: Venice Family Clinic (Links to an external site.) I have chosen scenario : 1) Jeanette, a single mom, and full-time LASC student needs low-cost childcare for her 6-month-old son, Jaiden. Jeanette is a member of the LASC Black Collegians Club. 3 services are : 1. Black Mothers Breastfeeding Association : I have chosen this because her son is just 6 months old and to have a good immunity such a small child requires mother's milk. There are several advantages to breastfeeding your child, including how it can boost the baby's immune system and lower the risk of some cancers for mothers.
